The 2nd Intercollegiate Freshmen Design Competition involving engineering students from three area colleges will be held tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 17, at California State University, Fresno.

The competition pits about 100 Reedley College, Fresno City College and Fresno State freshmen students from mechanical engineering introductory courses who will compete for top honors designing and testing balsa wood planes.

After a design and construction session from about 8:30 to 10 a.m., the teams will test their planes with flights from the third floor of the Engineering East Building, Room 356B.

Aside from school pride, T-shirts and other prizes will be awarded to the successful team, said Dr. Satya Mahanty, chairman of the Fresno State Mechanical Engineering Department.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. on the Engineering West Building lawn. Event sponsors, Floway Pumps and Frito Lay, will be providing lunch for team members and their faculty advisers.
