Fresno, April 26 — Vintage Days is not quite over!

Although twister-like winds racked the Fresno State campus last Friday night, the real Twister will touch down this Saturday, April 28, when the “Let’s Get Twisted” event — originally scheduled during Vintage Days last weekend — will be held at 10 a.m. in the Red Lot of Bulldog Stadium with registration beginning at 8 a.m.

And while student organizers are confident the weather-event “twister” won’t show up, they hope the current sunshine will help entice 4,200 Fresnans to come out and help break into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most participants to play the Twister game at one time.

Originally intended for students, faculty and staff, the contest is now open to all Fresno residents, said Terrance Mayes, student coordinator of “Let’s Get Twisted.”

“We will try to enter the Guinness Book as Fresno residents breaking the record at Fresno State,” said Mayes. A Hasbro Toy Company representative will be on hand to certify the results for the Guinness Book of World Records.

Interested participants must show up at between 8 and 9:45 a.m. to register at the Red Lot on the corner of Barstow and Cedar. Pre-registration is also being taken at the University Student Union, room 306, or call 278-2741 for details.

The Vintage Days holdover-event, which is free and open to the public to observe, was postponed from April 21 for fear of bad weather — and the organizers were right as funnel-like winds knocked down trees and crushed a car and a vendor tent Friday night.

Weather reports forecast a sunny San Joaquin Valley day — picture-perfect for a Twister contest, Mayes said.

At 10 a.m., participants will take their places on one of 1,100 mats shipped in by the Hasbro Toy Company. The games will begin at 10:30 a.m. when a caller will announce instructions from high up on a scissor-lift and should end about 11:30 a.m.

The winner of Twister — the lone person standing at the end — will receive a trip for two to Six Flags Magic Mountain. A drawing for several other prizes will also be held.

The first 400 people, participants or spectators, to enter the Red Lot will receive free “Let’s Get Twisted” T-shirts. More T-shirts will be available for $5 each.

Mayes said 100 judges are also needed and anyone can serve as a judge as long as they show up by 8:30 a.m. for a briefing at 9 a.m. and to receive a judges badge.

The Red Lot is on the corner of Barstow and Cedar. Parking will be available in the Red, Blue and White lots surrounding the stadium.

Over 1000 participants have already pre-registered, said Amy Allen, the event’s adviser. For info call 278-2741.
