California State University, Fresno students who are staff members on the tri-weekly campus newspaper, The Collegian, won a total of 12 awards in the 52nd annual California Intercollegiate Press Association conference recently in San Diego.

Collegian Editor in Chief Forrest Valdiviez of Visalia/Tulare won three awards for work produced in the last year: second place for editorial writing, third place for feature photography and honorable mention in feature photography.

Other staff members and their awards are: Melissa Crisp of Fresno, first place for opinion columns; Jason Anderson of Sacramento, second place for sports new article;

Gretchen Wenner of Fresno, second place for arts feature; Mike Hazelwood of Tulare, third place for sports game article; and Michelle Greene of Stockton, honorable mention for front-page tabloid layout.

Three other Fresno State students were winners in the on-the-spot competition at the conference: Jill Roberts of Visalia, second place for feature photography; Gabriel Dillard of Selma, honorable mention for news writing; and Jeremy Rue of Fresno, honorable mention for news photography.
