Former Clinton administration member and founding director of the UCLA Center for Policy Research on Aging Fernando Torres-Gil will speak at an Older Americans Month workshop from 8 a.m. to noon Monday (May 14) at California State University, Fresno.

“New Aging: Culture and Diversity” is the title of the session, which will also feature John Colen of the California Department of Aging’s Policy Analysis Unit.

The university’s Gerontology Club will be host the workshop in the Satellite Student Union. It is free and open to students and the community.

Torres-Gil served for three years as the first U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging before joining UCLA as director of the Center for Policy Research on Aging and associate dean for the School of Public Policy and Social Research. Prior to his federal appointment, he served as staff director for the House Select Committee on Aging and special assistant to two secretaries of Health and Human Services. He is the author of “The New ging: Politics and Change in America.”

Campus parking restrictions will be relaxed in lots A, J, I, O and P.
