Fresno State’s internationally acclaimed viticulture and enology program is paying dividends sending its graduates into the industry and this weekend the public will get a chance to see those results first hand when alumnus Bret Engelman holds his first open house for his winery, Engelmann Cellars, on Sunday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Last summer, Engelman received a 95-point Gold Medal at the California State Fair and a Best Sangiovese of California Appellation award for his 2000 Sangiovese made from grapes grown directly behind his winery west of Fresno.

Engelman was on Fresno State’s award-winning team three years ago when the university won its first gold medal at the state fair. He was also featured earlier this week on KSEE TV Ch. 24’s Sunrise show as well as the California Heartland Series PBS -TV show recently, crediting the College of Agriculture and Technology’s viticulture and enology program for his success.

Engelmann Cellars is a premium boutique winery located at 3275 N. Rolinda, six miles west of Hwy. 99 on Rolinda Ave. between Shields and Dakota Avenues.

Fresno State winemaster Kenneth Fugelsang will be available at the wine tasting from approximately 1 to 2 p.m.
