Officials from the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission will be at California Sate University, Fresno from noon to 1 p.m. today (Nov. 13) for a seminar on race and national origin discrimination against Latinos, Asians, Arab-Americans and Muslims as well as sexual harassment issues.
EEOC Regional Attorney William R. Tamayo of the San Francisco District will speak at the seminar, “Recent Developments at the EEOC,” in the University Student Union Room 312-314.
“One of our outreach goals is to address concerns about intimidation and harassment in the workplace since Sept. 11, directed at individuals who are, or are perceived to be, Muslim, Arab and South Asian,” Tamayo told university officials.
Tamayo directs the commission’s litigation and legal program in Northern and Central California, Hawaii, American Samoa, Wake Island, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
He will discuss the role and developments of the U.S. EEOC regarding laws enforced, recent cases filed on behalf of Latinos and other minorities or immigrants; partnerships between the EEOC and the communities — what has been done and what more needs to be done; and an overview of federal employment discrimination issues that EEOC is litigating across the country.
