Award-winning writer David Anthony Durham will be the Distinguished Visiting Writer for the 2003 fall semester at California State University, Fresno.

Durham is the author of the novels “Gabriel’s Story” and “Walk Through Darkness,” both published by Doubleday/Anchor. He has won the American Library Association Black Caucus Literary Award and the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Fiction Award in 1992.

Time magazine called “Gabriel’s Story” an “impressive moral fable” and USA Today found the book “wise and beautifully written.”

Publisher’s Weekly called “Walk Through Darkness,” Durham’s recent novel, “powerfully written and emotionally devastating.”

Durham was born in 1969 in New York and spent his early years in Trinidad, his parents’ homeland. He received an MFA from the University of Maryland in 1996. He has lived and traveled widely throughout America and Europe.
