*What in the world is a "pageview?"

Here's a simple definition...a pageview is one person looking at one page on FresnoStateNews.com. In advertising terms...that's the number of individual "impressions" recorded each day.

Here's the detailed description for the more technical (nerdy?) types out there....A "page" is defined as any file dished out by our  web server that would generally be considered a web document. This includes HTML pages (.html, .htm, .shtml), script-generated pages (.cgi, .asp, .cfm, etc.), and plain-text pages. Image files (.jpeg, .gif, .png, etc.), sound files (.wav, .aiff, etc.), video files (.mov, .ram, etc.), and other non-document files do not count as pages. Each time a file defined as a page is served, a pageview is registered by FresnoStateNews.com.

This statistic is an accurate indicator of the use of our site.  Many Web sites report "hits," but that is a greatly inflated number. We record hundreds of thousands to millions of hits each day.  We chose to report the more accurate "pageview" statistic.  We currently record over three million pageviews per year.
