When Cultures Collide Focus of History Graduate Symposium Saturday

Fresno State will hold it fifth annual history graduate student symposium on Saturday, April 5, on the topic of "When Cultures Collide: Conflict and Confrontation in History."

The event is held at the California State University, Fresno University Business Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. 

Mortimer Chambers, Professor Emeritus and distinguished professor at UCLA, is the keynote speaker and will explore  "The Confrontation Between Rome and Christianity." Chamber's keynote address is at 9 a.m. The event will continue through 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Other presentations will be made by Fresno State graduate students as well as academic representatives of other campuses, including Michigan Technological University, the University of California at Davis, and DePaul University.

Presentations will include a historical analysis of San Francisco's controversial damming of Hetch Hetchy Valley inside Yosemite National Park as its municipal water source, medieval German and Czech conflict in the University of Prague, the colonization of Ireland,  Dutch immigration in Kings County, Mexican-American divisions on immigrant related issues; and the sources of cultural conflict.
