> 6 a.m., May 23 Update -- Barstow Avenue has been reopened in front of the fire site.  Some neighborhood streets still remain closed, so travel through the area carefully.

> 5 p.m., May 22 Update -- Barstow Avenue is still closed west of the Cedar and Barstow intersection.

Fire information update regarding Fresno State

Traffic: University Police report that Barstow Ave. west bound between Cedar and 10th will be closed until 8 p.m. 


University Village media contact:  Jason Wills, media spokesperson for American Campus Communities, builders of University Village, has informed Fresno State he is available for media inquires at: 512 732-1026.   The company issued a statement regarding the May 20 fire and full refunds yesterday. American Campus Communities requests that all questions about University Village be directed to Jason Wills.

Fresno State Housing questions: Karen Johnson Fresno state housing director, is available for media interviews until 12:30 or after 3 p.m. to address general housing questions that affect the university.  Contact Tom Uribes at 278-5366 or 250-8459

FIRE TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Employees Asked to Avoid Barstow and Cedar
 
The Fresno Fire Department has requested that the university community assist its efforts by minimizing traffic congestion in the fire area on Barstow between Cedar and Sixth.

Persons leaving the campus should avoid using Barstow west of Maple Avenue as well as Cedar Avenue as much as possible.  Use the exits at the south and east end of campus. Please avoid driving by the fire scene.

FIRE TRAFFIC ADVISORY – Employees Use South And East Entrances, 7 a.m., May 20

Due to the apartment fire across from Bulldog Stadium this morning, University Police ask anyone coming to campus to avoid the Barstow and Cedar Avenue approach on the north side of the campus. Please use the south and east entrances to campus (Chestnut and Shaw main access roads):

• Chestnut to Barstow to Maple Ave. (east of Maple only)

• Shaw at Barton, Maple and Woodrow Aves.

Background: School is out of session however the university’s staff is still working ion summer hours, which begin at 7 a.m.

Also: Power was lost briefly on the main campus, due to the fire, this morning. Power was restored after about 30 minutes.  Campus employees remained on duty during the outage.
