Seven students at California State University, Fresno have been selected for a prestigious internship program that prepares students to enter the public health work force.

The Internship Program for Students of Minority-Serving Institutions is offered by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Association of State and Territorial Directors of Health Promotion and Public Health Education.

“This highly competitive national program selects the best and brightest students —regardless of ethnicity — at universities designated as Minority Serving Institutions and provides them with an opportunity to enhance their academic training by placing them with preceptors who have demonstrated leadership in the field of public health,” said Dr. Miguel Perez, assistant professor of health science at Fresno State.

“We are proud to have seven of our students accepted into this program.” The students are:

• Stephanie Castleberry of Visalia, a senior majoring in health science with an emphasis in community health. Internship site: Tulare County Health Department.

• Tommie Lee Davis-Clark of Madera, a senior majoring in health science with an emphasis in Community Health. Internship Site: Centers for Disease Control.

• Eric Garcia of Merced, a sophomore majoring in health science with an emphasis in administration. Internship site: Bautista Medical Group in Fresno.

• Amarjot Kiran Grewal of Fresno, a junior majoring in Health science with an emphasis in community health. Internship site: Fresno County Health Department.

• Ruth A. Mares of Madera, a senior majoring in health science with an emphasis in Administration. Internship site: Bautista Medical Group in Fresno.

• Donna Moua of Fresno, a junior majoring in health science with an emphasis in administration. Internship site: Fresno County Health Deptartment.

• Tamika Myles of Fresno, a sophomore majoring in health science. Internship site: Madera County Health Department.
