The Fresno State Winery will present its first-ever Christmas Open House on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. featuring the release of its 2004 Pinot Gris for the first time.
Tasting of the new wine will be offered as well as another chance to taste and buy the limited production Nouveaus introduced at the recent Le Vin Nouveau in November. Admission is free and open to the public, age 21 and over.
The 2004 Pinot Gris features yellow-green hues resulting from subtle extraction of fully ripened fruit grown in the Duarte family’s Linden Hills Vineyard located in San Joaquin County, said Ken Fugelsang, Fresno State winemaster.
“Lemon, apple, pear, peach and honeydew flavors with a soft, creamy texture culminate in a lingering finish,” Fugelsang said. “This wine pairs nicely with hor d’oeuvres, seafood, light meat and pork venues.”
Holiday discounts will be offered on all wines, said Garrett Jones, the winery’s new marketing director.
“Join us for great hors d’ oeuvres and wine and some wonderful holiday gift ideas, not to mention an opportunity to meet our new winemaker, John Gianinni, or speak with our renowned winemaster, Ken Fugelsang,” he added.
The Christmas Open House will be the last major public event before the viticulture and enology program’s annual Winemaster’s Weekend at Tenaya Lodge slated for March 4 and 5, 2005.
