CSET prep course offered at Fresno State

Students preparing to take the new California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) may enroll in a test preparation workshop offered through Continued and Global Education at California State University, Fresno.

The National Evaluation Systems workshop is designed for students planning to take the CSET on March 20.  The workshop is scheduled for three consecutive Saturdays, Feb. 21, 28 and March 13.

Reservations may be made online by filling out the form at http://www.csufresno.edu/ExtendedEd/CSET.html.  Payment must be received by Saturday, Feb. 14.  The fee for the non-credit workshop is $300.

The three-day accelerated workshop covers all three subtest areas with subject matter ranging from reading, language, literature, history/social studies, mathematics, science, physical education, human development, and visual and performing arts.

Students who are preparing to teach in a multiple subject setting are required to take either the CSET or complete a CCTC approved Elementary Subject Matter (ESM) program prior to student teaching.

The CSET is a new testing program being developed as the examination option for the subject matter competence requirement.  The testing program will over the next four years, take the place of the current Single Subject Assessments for Teaching and Praxis II subject matter examinations.

The Kremen School of Education and Human Development at Fresno State is in the process of developing its own CSET preparation seminar and it should be available in the fall, said Paul Beare, dean of the Kremen School.
