Public Invited to Science II Dedication With Jean-Michel Cousteau and Open House March 11-12

 

Backgrounder...the history of the project

Central California residents are invited to join the California State University, Fresno community to officially dedicate the new Science II Building on Friday, March 11, and Saturday, March 12.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the main entrance of Science II, located on San Ramon Avenue just east of Maple Avenue. See campus map.

A community open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday will feature student research posters and faculty exhibits that showcase university science programs.

Jean-Michel Cousteau Will Speak At University Lecture Series March 10

Jean-Michel Cousteau, famed oceanographer, explorer, filmmaker and son of the legendary Jacques Cousteau, will be featured at the dedication ceremony for the Science II building on March 11. More...

The Friday program will feature comments by Jean-Michel Cousteau, famed oceanographer, explorer, filmmaker and son of the legendary Jacques Cousteau.

Fresno State President John D. Welty and Dr. K.P. Wong, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, also will speak.

Joining in the ribbon-cutting will be distinguished Fresno State alumnus Dr. Kent Yamaguchi, chief of plastic surgery at University Medical Center in Fresno and 2002 Top Dog Alumnus from the College of Science and Mathematics; Steve Magarian, former Fresno County Sheriff who earned his B.A. and M.A. in criminology from Fresno State; and current graduate students Roberto Vaca (psychology) and Donecia Wright (criminology).

Following the ceremony chemistry professor Dr. David Frank will present a “Science Mania” show at 11 a.m. in the courtyard. Building tours will begin at 11:30 a.m.

The 71,000 square-foot Science II Building is the largest academic building constructed on campus since the Kremen School of Education building was completed in 1994. It contains lecture halls, instructional labs for environmental science and psychology classes, department and faculty offices, and a dean’s complex for the College of Science and Mathematics.
