Shannon Spann Puphal, a public relations and marketing practitioner with10 years of experience, has been named director of campaign communications at California State University, Fresno.

Puphal will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the campaign marketing strategies, marketing communications and public relations activities, both external and internal, for the university.

Her experience includes extensive work in capital campaign planning with a number of clients, including Saint Agnes Medical Center, The Village at Granite Park and the Save Mart Center at Fresno State.

Puphal most recently was the owner of Sago Communications, a Fresno-based public relations and marketing company specializing in the development and implementation of strategic marketing plans. Prior to starting her own company, Puphal was a marketing consultant for six years with Panagraph Inc.

Mark Aydelotte, associate vice president for University Communications, said Puphal’s experience and expertise will be a plus for the communications and comprehensive campaign teams at Fresno State.

“Much of our job is building awareness across the state and nation about the great work of our faculty, students and alumni. Shannon will directly help build understanding for the university, especially among our donors.”

Puphal said, “I am thrilled with the opportunity to lead the communications effort within the development campaign. Fresno State is in the midst of embarking on a number of incredible projects that will catapult its recognition on an international level.”

Puphal is a Fresno State alumna, with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications and a master’s degree in mass communications. She and her husband, Brian, live in Clovis.
