California State University, Fresno students and the Fresno community are gearing up to “Walk on the Wild Side” at the 30th annual Vintage Days celebration on campus this week: April 14-17.

Vintage Days is one of the Central Valley’s largest multi-day events, attracting more than 50,000 people from Fresno and surrounding communities to the campus.

The annual spring festival features a crafts fair, food booths and live entertainment for adults, as well as carnival rides, pony rides, a petting zoo and activities for children.

The entire four-day celebration is planned and coordinated by the Vintage Days Committee, a group of Fresno State students under the guidance of adviser Frankie Moore from the Student Activities and Leadership Development Office.

Vintage Days will kick off Thursday with the Staff Assembly Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in the Free Speech Area on campus. Breakfast tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the Office of the President. For more ticket information, call (559) 278-2324.

Following the breakfast, opening ceremonies and a pizza eating contest will take place at noon at the University Student Union South Patio. Later that night, Casino Night and a karaoke contest will get underway from 7 to 11 p.m. in the University Student Union.

On Friday, the Boomtown Carnival, Crafts Faire, and Kids’ Zone will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will continue through the weekend.

More than 150 vendors selling hand-made goods will be at the Crafts Faire. In addition, approximately 35 Fresno State clubs and organizations will be selling drinks and food items such as tri-tip sandwiches, fajitas, beerocks, fruit bowls and much more.

Salsa Night will take place Friday night at the Satellite Student Union. Salsa lessons will begin at 6:30 p.m. and dancing will kick off at 8 p.m., featuring live music from Beleza, the Fresno State Salseros and Orquesta Bakan. Admission to Sales Night is free to Fresno State students and $10 for the public.

Live bands will perform on the Concert Stage on Keats Avenue (south of the Music Building) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Entertainment also will be presented at the Crafts Faire Stage on Maple Mall, (south of the Satellite Student Union). Live bands and performances will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Vintage Days will wrap up on Sunday with closing ceremonies held at 4 p.m. at the Crafts Faire Stage.
