Foundation Service Award Honors Muriel Smittcamp 

The California State University, Fresno Foundation will present Muriel Smittcamp with the  Foundation Service Award at the annual Pinnacle Society dinner on Saturday, May 14.

The award is traditionally presented to an individual for meritorious services and contributions made to Fresno State. It is presented to those who have achieved a high level of stature in their profession that reflects favorably upon the Fresno community and to those who have demonstrated significant leadership in the goals of the university.

Smittcamp is co-founder of the Smittcamp Family Businesses, which provide fresh fruit, fresh-frozen fruit products and food ingredients for food manufacturers throughout North and Central America. The Smittcamp family also is known for its deep commitment to supporting the community and the university.  

Smittcamp grew up in Corcoran, graduated from Fresno High School and from then-Fresno State College in 1940.  She and her husband Earl Smittcamp, also a Fresno State alum, have four children − all alumni of Fresno State − and 14 grandchildren.

            Smittcamp’s leadership in philanthropic activities has included service to many organizations including the Red Cross, Ranchero Guild of Valley Children’s Hospital, March of Dimes, Clovis Woman’s Club, Clovis High School Future Farmer’s of America, Fresno County Easter Seal Society, Fresno State Bulldog Foundation and the Fresno State Alumni Association.
