Toy Fair will display inventions of
Kids Invent Toys on Friday, July 1

Kids inventing toys at Fresno State? You bet! Kids Invent Toys (tm) is an innovative,  non-resident summer camp held on the California State University, Fresno campus for children in grades 5-8. For kids with creative minds, the Kids Invent Toys (tm) camps expand their horizons in just five days.

Kids Invent Toys (tm) camps were created by Dr. Edwin Sobey, author of "Inventing Stuff," a kid’s guide to inventing and creativity, and executive producer/host of "The Idea Factory," a television show on science, technology and creativity for children. Faculty from the Craig School of Business at Fresno State and local entrepreneurs also work with the kids during the week-long Kids Invent Toys (tm) camps.

Four years ago, the school introduced Kids Invent Robotics (tm), which turned out to be a great hit. During that camp, kids design and build a series of remote-control toys and robots starting with basic components.

During the camps, children design and invent a toy, build, test and improve a succession of mock-up toys. A field trip is taken to a local toy store where the children do market research on their toys. Then the young "inventors" create advertisements and build a Web page to promote their toys. Finally, they display their inventions at a public Toy Fair.

On Friday, July 1, the last day of the camp, all the toys the children invented, along with their advertisements and Web sites, will go on display at 2 p.m. in the plaza of the Peters Business Building at Fresno State.
