Arne Nixon Center curator will speak at Oct. 8 meeting

Angelica Carpenter, curator of the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at California State University, Fresno, will present a slide-illustrated travelogue on her “Magical Sabbatical: A Children’s Literature Tour of England and Other Places” at the annual meeting of the Arne Nixon Center Advocates on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Fresno State.
 
During the spring 2005 semester, Carpenter visited European collections of children’s literature at Roehampton University in Surrey, England; the Bodleian Library in Oxford; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Seven Stories, The Centre for the Children's Book, at Newcastle upon Tyne; the National Library of the Netherlands, the Hague; and the International Youth Library, Munich.
 
Her talk will feature highlights from these collections and photos of many other children’s literature sites and events.
           
The meeting in the Residence Dining Facility at Fresno State (5200 N. Campus Drive) will begin with refreshments served at 9:30 a.m. and the program at 10 a.m. The program will include a display of posters and books that Carpenter acquired for the Arne Nixon Center during her sabbatical.
 
Carpenter’s books will be available for sale and autographing. A short ANCA business meeting will also be included.
