‘Leap for Relief’ Oct. 11 to benefit hurricane campaign

The Recreation Association at Fresno State will hold a “Leap for Relief” event today, Oct. 11, to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims as part of the Fresno State Hurricane Relief Project.

The event, which will take place from 3:30 to 6 p.m., will be held at the Fresno State Ropes Course, located at the west end of campus, north of the Residence Dining Hall and south of the South Gym.

For a $5 donation, participants can take the quantum leap - a high jump off of the 20-foot-high pole at the ropes course.  Participants will be secured with full safety gear and necessary instructions.  Every person who jumps off the pole and catches a stuffed bulldog suspended a short distance from the top of the pole will be entered into a drawing for prizes such as a 35mm camera.

Members will be selling tickets in the Free Speech Area on campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. until the event.

The Recreation Association is a recognized club in the Recreation and Leisure Administration major, which offers recreation opportunities, as well as volunteer opportunities, in the recreation field to members. The club is not exclusive to majors, but majors comprise most of the membership base.

The Fresno State Hurricane Relief Project is spearheaded by Fresno State’s Office of Civic Engagement and Service-Learning and the Division of Student Affairs, which will collect all funds and distribute them to various agencies involved in the relief efforts.
