‘American Jobs’ town hall meeting Oct. 19

Creating jobs and the economy will be the focus of “American Jobs: A National Conversation,” a town hall meeting, Oct. 19 at California State University, Fresno. The town hall meeting will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union, 2485 E. San Ramon Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Parking will be relaxed in Lots P and J.

Appearing on the panel to discuss what it will take to create good jobs will be Fresno Mayor Alan Autry, Carol Chandler of Chandler Farms, Kurt Madden of One by One Leadership, David McDonald of Pelco and Fred Ruiz of Ruiz Foods.

Moderated by veteran television journalist Frank Sesno, vice president and Washington bureau chief for CNN, the discussion will center around a poll that gauges citizens' thoughts and reactions to the current economic situation in Fresno.

The program, fifth in a series of national town halls, is organized by the Council of Excellence in Government in partnership with the Global Markets Institute at Goldman Sachs. Community sponsors are the Craig School of Business at Fresno State, the Business Journal, ABC-30 TV and Valley Public Radio.

The project aims to facilitate a national conversation about the role of government and the private sector in job creation through town halls such as this one, local and national polling, research projects and published reports.

Previous sessions were held in Baton Rouge, Cleveland, Baltimore and San Antonio.

The National Council for Excellence in Government is a national, nonpartisan and nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. that works to improve the performance of government at all levels, as well as citizens' participation, understanding and trust in government.
