Outstanding alum Roy Christopher will speak about his career Nov. 18


Roy Christopher, Hollywood’s top production designer and a Fresno State alum, will return his alma mater to share highlights of his career with the campus and community on Friday, Nov. 18.

Christopher will speak on “Designing Hollywood: ­ My First Forty Years!” at 2 p.m. in the Arena Theatre of the Speech Arts Building at California State University, Fresno. An informal reception following the lecture will be held in the Lyles Gallery, adjacent to the theatre. The events are free and open to the public but reservations are required by Nov. 15 by calling 559.278.5109.

Christopher has designed Emmy and Tony Award-winning sets for television shows “Frasier,” “Becker” and “Murphy Brown,” and holds an all-time record of 14 Academy Awards.

In 2004, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Art Directors Guild. He has worked with such legendary figures as Carol Burnett, Lily Tomlin, Mary Tyler Moore, and Shirley MacLaine.

In 1993, Christopher received an Outstanding Alumni Award from the Fresno State Alumni Association.

Christopher will be accompanied by his wife Dorothy (Joyal) Christopher, who is also a Fresno State graduate.
