During his visit to Fresno State, Chancellor Reed taped a session of "Valley Press," a public television program hosted by Professor Jim Tucker of Mass Communication and Journalism Department.

CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed will be at California State University, Fresno today (Nov. 28) to honor students in the Chancellor's Fellowship Program who are graduating in December.

The Chancellor's Fellowship Reception for 27 students of the Chancellor's Fellowship III cohort in the Kremen School of Education's Educational Research and Administration Department will be from 5:30-7:30 pm in Smittcamp Alumni House (2625 Matoian Ave.). See names below.

Fresno State President John D. Welty and the Educational Research and Administration faculty will be joined by mentors, principals and superintendents from 10 school districts at the graduation reception presented by the Kremen School of Education's Educational Research and Administration Department.

Established in 2001, the highly successful Chancellor’s Fellowship is an innovative program to prepare dynamic educational leaders for the Central Valley of California, the state, the nation and the world, said Dr. Don Wise, program director and faculty member in the Educational Research and Administration Department.

More than 70 candidates have passed a rigorous selection process for the fellowship that begins with the written recommendation of each candidate’s superintendent.

The program has linked more than a dozen local school districts with Fresno State to prepare these students who are public school educators -- teachers, counselors, nurses and other practicing educators -- to become educational leaders.

As Chancellor Fellows, they receive tuition assistance from the Chancellor's office for the 18-month rigorous preparation program taking classes one day a week from 4 to 10 pm. Wise said the students are employed fulltime at their respective schools while taking the classes.

They will receive an administrative services credential and a master’s degree in education for coursework that will be completed in about two weeks. The credential qualifies them for administrative positions in schools, Wise said.

“Many of the Chancellor’s Fellows move quickly into leadership positions and have garnered high praise,” Wise said.

The Chancellor's Fellowship is a cohort model with collegial learning, collaboration with school districts and the Central Valley Educational Leadership Institute (CVELI), another successful collaborative endeavor Fresno State has implemented to provide continued support to school leaders in California’s Central Valley.

“Building successful partnerships is a key theme in the Education Administration program at Fresno State,” Wise said. “Strong relationships are being forged to enhance the preparation of school leaders and to build networks of support for the critical work of leading schools.”

A fourth cohort is currently under way. For more information: contact Wise at 559. 278-0298 or 278.0352
