Ag One Foundation to honor Jack Woolf

The Ag One Foundation at California State University, Fresno will recognize Jack Woolf at the Ag One Community Salute award dinner on Friday, May 12, at the Fresno Convention Center Exhibit Hall, 848 M St. in downtown Fresno.

Woolf, founder and past chairman of Woolf Enterprises, will be honored for his long and devoted service to California agriculture and commitment to the community.

Over the years, Woolf has played a major role in the development of Westside farming and Valley water. His own pioneering days began in 1974 with the retirement of Russell Giffen, for whom Woolf had worked for many years. He began farming for himself and Woolf Enterprises has grown from a row crop operation to a diversified business that includes tomatoes, garlic, cotton, wheat, alfalfa, wine grapes, almonds and pistachios. In addition, it is a principal in the Harris Woolf California Almonds processing plant, Los Gatos Tomato Products processing plant, Huron Ginning Company, Woolf Nursery and Cal-West Rain.

Woolf has served as president of the California Tomato Growers Association and on numerous boards, including Westland Water District, Santa Clara University Board of Regents and the Fresno Historical Society.

The salute, open to the public, begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. The dinner and program start at 7 p.m. Advance reservations are $100 per person and $1,000 for a table of 10.

The primary sponsor for the event is Cal-West Rain from Kerman. Established in 1989, Cal-West Rain designs, sells and services irrigation and water needs for the Central Valley.

The Ag One Endowment Fund was launched in 1979 and over the years has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships and grants to 2,500 students.

Woolf is the 11th Community Salute honoree since the event was established in 1987 to recognize individuals for their service to agriculture and commitment to the community. Proceeds from this event will be used to establish the Ag One – Jack Woolf Scholarship Endowment fund to benefit students pursuing a degree in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology.
