Work on a new location for the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office is under way at California State University, Fresno.
The office must leave its space in the north wing of the Henry Madden Library, which will be demolished to make way for a new library building. SSD will move by summer into remodeled space in the former Carl’s Jr. restaurant in University Center, across from the University Student Union.
Remodeling plans include creating SSD staff offices, construction of a computer lab, testing booths and a new entry through glass doors. The work will provide office space and special furniture, while improving study areas.
SSD provides specialized resources that help students with physical, psychological and learning disabilities to achieve maximum independence while pursuing educational goals. Students who have temporary or permanent disabilities affecting academic functioning may be eligible for a variety of support services.
Seven staff members and 15 student assistants help students. This spring, SSD is working with 575 students with disabilities.
