Three university-sponsored programs dedicated to enriching literacy in the community will host award-winning children’s author and illustrator Steven Kellogg on Monday, March 27, in the Residence Dining Facility at California State University, Fresno. The free program will begin at 5 p.m. with a reception and book signing, followed by the lecture at 7 p.m.
Kellogg will visually guide the audience through the story of his career by illustrating his book “The Island of the Skog.” After the talk there will be an auction of the illustrations to raise money for the sponsors, Jumpstart, the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature and Fresno READS.
The program is also sponsored by Associated Students.
Kellogg has produced 90 books, including the popular “Pinkerton series,” “Pecos Bill,” and a retelling of “Jack and the Bean Stalk.”
“I try to blend illustrations and the words so that each book is a feast for the eye and ear,” Kellogg said. “I want the time that the reader shares with me and my work to be an enjoyable experience — one that will encourage a lifetime of association with pictures, words and books.”
