The 14th annual Central California Flute Festival will be held Saturday, March 25, from 8:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Music Building (2380 E. Keats Ave.) at California State University, Fresno.

The festival, designed for flute players of all ages and abilities, is composed of two public concerts, master classes and exhibits.

The 1 p.m. public performance in Wahlberg Recital Hall will feature guest flutist Susan Milan, assisted by Fresno State staff pianist Natasha Kislenko. They will perform Philippe Gaubert’s “3rd Sonata,” Lowell Liebermann’s “Sonata,” Theodor Boehm’s “Grand Polonaise,’ and English composer Richard R. Bennett’s “Winter Music.”

Milan was the first woman appointed a principal of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and has been a chamber musician, soloist, teacher and lecturer. Milan, who is a professor and fellow of the Royal College of Music in London, will lead a warm-up session and teach a master class.

The Gala Concert at 4:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall will showcase the novice, intermediate, advanced and professional Festival Flute Choirs, Milan, guest flute choirs and the Fresno State Flute Ensemble. Music professor Teresa Beaman, the festival coordinator, will be joined by tenor Randolph Lacy, also a music professor, in a duo by John Corigliano.

Exhibits by music stores and flute makers will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The fee for the entire festival is $35, which includes admission to concerts, master class, rehearsals, warm-up and exhibits. Individual admission to events and rehearsals other than the concerts is $9 for each session. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m.

Tickets for each concert cost $10 and may be purchased at the Music Department Box Office from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday or one hour prior to the start of each concert. Tickets also are available online at www.csufresno.edu/music.
