The 95th Commencement at California State University, Fresno will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Save Mart Center on campus.

Commencement Week activities will embrace 20 different events, most on campus. Several will be in the new Student Recreation Center, west of the Save Mart Center, which opened in February. The Rec Center’s use means an end to commencement events in the North Gym.

Activities begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 18, with the Nursing Ceremony, the only off-campus event, scheduled at Holland Park West in Fresno (3855 N. Bryan Ave.).

On Friday, May 19, there will be 14 events: six college or school convocations, seven department programs and the Graduate Degree Hooding Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. The hooding includes conferral of the doctoral degree in educational leadership, offered jointly with the University of California.

After Saturday morning’s University Commencement, there will be six more events, concluding at 6 p.m. with the Latino Commencement Celebration at the Save Mart Center.

The University Commencement Committee has been working throughout the semester on the events as the Commencement enters its third year at the Save Mart Center. The planning committee, coordinated through the Division of Student Affairs, is composed of representatives from the events, the Save Mart Center and other university offices.

Gary Nelson, commencement coordinator in the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development, said he expects about 7,500 to attend the Commencement ceremony Saturday morning.

This year, three of four events that were held last year in the North Gym will be moved to the new Student Recreation Center: the convocations for the College of Science and the College of Arts and Humanities and the Psychology Department Graduation Celebration. The College of Engineering convocation is moving to the Satellite Student Union from the North Gym.
