Faculty experts from the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department at California State University Fresno are available to discuss today’s events:

Dr. Stephen D. Lewis

Ph.D., Columbia University, 1982

Subjects taught include Global Tectonics, Geology of New Zealand, and Field Methods in New Zealand and Australia. His research has focused on the structural and tectonic development of continental margins, mostly in the circum-Pacific region. He has led oceanographic research expeditions to the Philippines, the South China margin, Taiwan, Alaska, southern Chile and to offshore California. He has served as Chief Scientist on a cruise of the International Ocean Drilling Program vessel JOIDES RESOLUTION to Southern Chile. He has served on science advisory committees for the MARGINS Program, the Ocean Drilling Program.

Dr. Lewis class from 11 a.m. to noon today, Oceans, Atmospheres and Climate Change (Geology 167 — upper division course), will discuss today’s tsunami warning and earthquake. He indicated media interested in capturing this discussion are welcome. Please contact Tom Uribes to arrange a time window and for location/parking. 559.246.1717.
