Madden Library demolition begins today

Demolition of the north wing of the Madden Library will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 8.  Work is expected to start at 10 a.m. on the northeast corner of the building. It will take about three weeks to tear the building down and a couple more weeks to complete the cleanup of the site.

Noise associated with the demolition of the north wing will be reviewed by Environmental Health and Safety to ensure that safety practices are adhered to.

As the building is torn down the debris will be sorted into piles and much of it will be salvaged and recycled. The debris will be transported off campus by truck via Barton to Shaw Avenue.  There will be signage and flagmen as needed along this route.

Photos below: The first day of demolition drew a crowd of people - many of them library employees who watched their former office spaces demolished.
There also were reporters from radio, TV and newspaper. Library Dean Michael Gorman is interviewed by Barbara Rosedale of KMJ Radio.
