Water, energy incubator seeks innovators

Applications are being accepted by the Central Valley Business Incubator for the first group of innovators to occupy the Water and Energy Technology (WET) Incubator under construction at California State University, Fresno.

The incubator is a partnership with the university-based International Center for Water Technology (ICWT) that will combine Fresno State educational resources with industry expertise. It is scheduled to be ready for occupancy by developing businesses March 1.

The goal of the new WET Incubator is to develop innovative ideas into businesses in two of the region’s most important industries, creating good-paying jobs that will boost the Central California economy, too.

The incubator is part of Fresno State’s mission of building community alliances that serve specific needs of the region, may have application well beyond Central California and develop leadership to meet challenges now and in the future.

“Many innovative ideas fail because they lack either the technical refinement or business expertise to move from concept to the marketplace,” said Dr. David Zoldoske, who is director of the ICWT.

The $5 million building that will house the incubator’s offices, classrooms, research space, testing equipment and Central Valley Business Incubator administrative facilities is being erected on the southwest corner of Chestnut and Barstow avenues.

Applications for the first early-stage businesses in the WET Incubator are due Jan. 2.
