Madden Library excavation work begins

Construction of the new Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno is under way with excavation work on the basement.

Starting today, trucks will haul dirt away from the construction site, causing some traffic disruptions on weekdays.  That work will take approximately six weeks.

During the excavation phase, Barton Avenue will be closed to through traffic from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.,  except for construction and delivery trucks and emergency vehicles.

Flaggers will direct trucks and pedestrians at the following locations: Barton and the Shaw Avenue frontage road, Barton and the dorm delivery/loading area, Keats and Jackson avenues, and the north end of Barton at the entrance to the construction yard.

Fencing and hazard tape will be placed along Barton to prevent pedestrian traffic except at one or two crossing areas between the student dorms and the Health Center.

University High School parents will be allowed to enter the frontage road at Barton and drop off students as usual at Jackson and Keats. They must exit the campus via Keats and Maple avenues.

Faculty and staff should use Maple and Keats avenues to access lots D and E. Students should enter and exit the dorm parking in Lot G via Cedar and Scott avenues. The frontage road will be closed to the east of Lot F.
