Yarbrough novel on Notable Books list

California State University, Fresno creative writing professor Steve Yarbrough’s newest novel was selected as one of the Kansas City Star’s 100 Notable Books of 2006.

Yarbrough’s “The End of California,” published in June and a Book-of-the-Month Club selection in July, was selected among the 27 novels chosen by the newspaper’s panel and by book readers. The list’s categories included the arts, biography, crime, general nonfiction, poetry, short fiction, books for young readers and novels.

“The author returns to his usual territory – Loring, Miss. – where things are always unsettled,” said the newspaper of Yarbrough’s story about a man who finds he can’t leave the past behind after returning to Mississippi from Fresno.
