New look for University Police cars

University Police Chief David Huerta tells Frances Pena about the new look of the department's patrol cars.

The police department hosted an open house Thursday to allow the campus community to view its equipment and remodeled office building.

Two of UPD's six patrol cars have received new paint and updated decal designs and been renovated inside to include new advanced communications and safety equipment.

All six vehicles should be retrofitted by June. Since July 2005, University Police Department has been enhancing its fleet with new purchases and replacements.

University Police Department is operational 24 hours a day, year-round to provide an environment for students, staff, faculty and visitors that is conducive to an institution of higher education. The University Police Department is staffed with 17 full-time sworn peace officers (with the 18th to join the staff in February) and seven trained dispatchers.
