PG&E gift helps Engineering Pathways Program

A $65,000 commitment from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to the College of Engineering at California State University, Fresno will help the student success program, Engineering Pathways.

The gift announcement kicks off National Engineers Week 2007 (Feb. 18-24), which will be observed with several activities on campus and at Fresno Fashion Fair shopping mall.

“PG&E is proud to have a long history of partnering with the College of Engineering at Fresno State in this endeavor and many others, which have such a positive impact on the local community," said Al Galvez, PG&E’s director of governmental and community affairs for Fresno.

"We are committed to developing future engineering leaders, and donating to this program helps ensure there will excellent local talent for many years to come."

The gift will provide much-needed funds to renovate the Engineering Pathways Leadership Lounge and expand the capacity of the program’s Leadership Retreat and Workshops, said Dr. Andrew Hoff, interim dean of the College of Engineering.

The Engineering Pathways program, established locally in 2005, provides mentoring opportunities, tutorial services and professional and leadership development.

“Engineering Pathways encompasses support and enrichment programs for students that reflect the trends and needs noted in today’s engineering and construction work settings, Hoff said. “These programs add to and enhance our academic programs and give our students an important edge as they graduate and become successful professionals.”

Hoff said the College of Engineering’s 85-year tradition of educating Fresno State’s engineering and construction management graduates “has shaped the region and continues to provide a rich academic environment where students thrive, working with dedicated faculty in nationally accredited programs to design and build the future”.
