Amerasia Week activities begin today

Amerasia Week 2007 will observe its 37th year when the six-day cultural festival unfolds at California State University, Fresno, Feb. 26 through March 3.

The celebration, designed to showcase different Asian cultures that are part of the Fresno community, is sponsored by Amerasia Organization, a student group.

All events will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union, located on Maple Avenue south of Barstow Avenue. Admission is free and open to the public, and parking restrictions in nearby lots will be relaxed. Events include:

  • Monday, Feb. 26 - Concert Night with Jeff and Cicily, along with other local artists

  • Wednesday, Feb. 28 - Cambodian and Japanese Cultures Night

  • Thursday, March 1 - Lao Heritage Night

  • Friday, March 2 - Hmong Culture Night

  • Saturday, March 3 - Festival Night

"This celebration is an example of Fresno's cultural diversity. People have the opportunity to come to the event and to gain a greater understanding about the cultural heritage of Asian Americans in Central California," said Dr. Franklin Ng, anthropology professor and Amerasia Organization adviser.
