The Music Department at California State University, Fresno, will host concerts, workshops and other events this month that appeal to a broad variety of musical interests and are open to the entire community.
The 16th annual Central California Day of Percussion will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in the Concert Hall. Clinics will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m. and a culminating concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. All-day passes cost $15 for general admission, $12 for faculty, staff and seniors, and $10 for students. Concert-only admission is $6, general; $5, faculty, staff and seniors; and $4, students.
The Concert Choir, Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Singers will preview their annual Central-California Tour as part of the Choir Tour Kickoff at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in the Concert Hall. The University High School Chamber Singers, conducted by Greg Lapp, will join the Fresno State groups. Tickets: $8, general; $5, faculty, staff, seniors and students.
The Wind Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $6, general; $5, faculty, staff, seniors and students.
Saxophonist Joseph Murphy and guitarist Matthew Slotkin will perform at 8 p.m. March 8 in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Tickets: $12; $8 for faculty, staff, seniors and students.
The Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concert Series and Central California Nikkei Foundation present pianist John Nakamatsu in concert at 8 p.m. March 9 in the Concert Hall. He will play works by Scarlatti, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Tjeknavorian and Liszt. Tickets: $12.50, general; $7, seniors; and $5, students. Reservations are encouraged.
The 15th annual Central California Flute Festival, which is designed for flute players of all ages and abilities, will be held March 10 in the Music Building. Registration begins at noon. The featured guest artist recital will be at 1 p.m. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall and the Flute Festival Gala Recital will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. The admission fee for participants is $15. Concert tickets are $10.
Tenor Randolph Lacy, pianist Natasha Kislenko and mezzo-soprano Helene Joseph-Weil will perform at 4 p.m. March 11 in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Tickets: $10, general; $5, faculty, staff, seniors and students.
The Master Chorale of the Fresno Community Chorus, conducted by music professor Dr. Anna Hamre, will perform Handel’s “Judas Maccabaeus” at 8 p.m. March 17 and 3 p.m. March 18 in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $15, general; $8, students.
Lacy and Weil will sing American, German, English and Italian compositions at 8 p.m. March 18 in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission is free.
The High School Concert Band Invitational on March 22 in the Concert Hall will include a dozen or more of California’s most successful high school concert bands. Tickets: $4, general admission; $3, faculty, staff and seniors; $2, students.
The Piano Trio and guest artists Miriam Belyatsky (violin) and Natasha Kislenko (piano) will perform at 8 p.m. March 23 in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $10, general; $6, faculty and staff; $5, seniors and students.
The 27th Annual Intercollegiate Wind Band Festival, which features 15-20 concert bands from West Coast community colleges and universities, will perform for nationally acclaimed adjudicators at 8 p.m. March 24. Tickets: $6, general; $5, faculty, staff, seniors and students.
