California State University, Fresno’s Department of Women’s Studies, the student group People Organized for Women’s Empowerment and Representation and the Femicide Action Committee will host a fundraising event at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 8.

The committee of professors, students and community individuals support victims of femicide, especially the women of Juarez, Mexico.

The event will be at the Collective for Arts, Freedom, and Ecology Infoshop, 935 F St. (between Tulare and Kern streets) in downtown Fresno. Tickets are $15.

The educational program also will raise money to allow a victim advocate from Mexico, Manuela Correa Mendez, to earn a certificate in victim services at Fresno State. She then will return to help victims in Juarez, said Dr. John Dussich, criminology professor who began the victim assistance program at Fresno State.
