Fresno State’s collegiate bowling team took high honors at the 2007 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championship in Wichita, Kansas, led by P.J. Haggerty, who was named Collegiate Player of the Year.

Haggerty, a senior from Weimar, was named the Most Valuable Player by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association in addition to his Player of the Year honor from the Bowling Writers Association of America.

Haggerty became the first individual to win three MVP awards and the second person to win the Bowling Writers Association honor three times.

Haggerty established a nation-leading 212.99-per-game average and helped lead second-ranked Bulldogs to their sixth straight championship tournament appearance.

Teammates Josh Blanchard from Upland and Matt Robinson from Albany joined Haggerty on the men’s All-American first team.

Also recognized were Fresno State women bowlers Karen Rosprim from Hanford, who was named to the All-American first team, and Michelle Quirk, from Roseville, who placed on the second team.

Chris Preble, who coaches both of Fresno State’s teams, was named Coach of the Year in the men’s and women’s divisions.
