Variety of music programs in May

The Music Department at California State University, Fresno, will host concerts, workshops and other events this month that appeal to a broad variety of musical interests and are open to the public.

  • May 1 – Faculty member Dr. Michael Caldwell will feature works from a standard trumpet repertoire in concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Tickets are $2.

  • May 2 – American artist and pianist Andrew von Oeyen will be featured in the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concert Series, co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities, at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. He will play works by Schumann, Debussy, and Liszt. Tickets: $12.50, general; $7, seniors; and $5, students. Reservations are encouraged.

  • May 3 - The flute ensemble recital will be held at 8 p.m. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall and feature works by soloists and the flute choir. Tickets: $6, general; $5 faculty, staff, seniors and students.

  • May 4 - Graduating seniors in Fresno State’s jazz band will present their season-ending performance at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $6, general; $5 faculty, staff, seniors and students.

  • May 6 – The Wind Orchestra Concerto Concert will be held at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $6, general; $5 faculty, staff, seniors and students.

  • May 7 – Under the direction of Dr. Lawrence Sutherland, Fresno State’s Symphony Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $6, general; $5 faculty, staff, seniors and students.

  • May 8 – The Symphonic Band will perform wind band classics, along with new
    literature, for their final performance of the year at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $6, general; $5 faculty, staff, seniors and students.

  • May 9 - The Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Anna Hamre will present a varied program at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $8, general; $5 faculty, staff, seniors and students.

  • May 12 - Fresno State’s Chamber Singers, Early Music Ensemble and Coro Piccolo of the Fresno Community Chorus will present rarely performed vespers from Monteverdi at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $15, general; and $8, students.

  • May 13 - Internationally acclaimed Fresno-based pianist Natasha Kislenko will perform Russian and American piano music at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Tickets: $10, general; $6, faculty and staff; $5, seniors and students.

  • May 18 – Orpheus’ final concert of the season features French music from the 19th and 20th centuries. Fresno State faculty member and pianist Andreas Werz will be featured at 8 p.m. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission is free. For more information, call 559.277.8784.
