More than 1,150 students will begin moving to the University Courtyard Residence Hall at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, and continue through the weekend. Most of the students arrive in the first two days.

A waiting list of 20 students will be accommodated at the University Inn located adjacent to the main campus, once again until rooms open up during the fall semester. These residents are expected to be housed on campus by the end of September, said Erin Boele, director of Housing.

Several events for new and returning residents and their parents are planned, including a barbecue from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Dr. Paul Oliaro, vice president of student affairs and dean of students, will speak at 5, followed by President John D. Welty. The Bulldog Marching Band will perform at 6 p.m.

This week will set the stage for the 2007 Welcome Week which begins Friday, Aug. 24 with the President’s New Student Convocation at 10 a.m. in the Satellite Student Union. Welcome Week runs through Aug. 31.

A dean’s reception, where the students can personally meet their respective deans, will follow the convocation at 11 a.m. at University Courtyard. A workshop by Duncan Ceramics showing how to use arts and crafts to decorate dorm rooms will be at 4 p.m. outside the Atrium at University Courtyard.

Weekend activities include Watermelon Games, Water Olympics, Casino Game Night, Ice cream sundaes and a financial aid workshop. (See schedule below.)
