Fresno native Lawrence Young, president and CEO of Active ES, Inc., a Southern California-based corporation that designs and markets energy management technology worldwide, will be the “Entrepreneur in Residence” this fall at the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at California State University, Fresno.

Young is a 1982 graduate of Fresno State and credits the direction and skills he learned at Fresno State for his career success.

He will be in Fresno Oct. 23-26 to meet with students, faculty and community groups.

A reception for the public will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 in the Smittcamp Alumni House.

With decades of experience in international business operations, high technology, and training – primarily performing “turnarounds” mergers and acquisitions, and expansion – Young formed Talent Investors (“Talent” refers to the biblical Parable of the Talents) with a business partner to identify businesses to acquire, turn around and grow for eventual sale.

Active ESTargeting the burgeoning field of energy management, their most recent project is Active ES.

Young’s career has taken him throughout the United States, as well as to the United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico. He started with Technology Training Corporation, a high technology/aerospace/defense seminar and conference development company where he eventually served as head of operations in Australia and then in Mexico. He later was worldwide director of engineering, manufacturing and management.

In the mid-1990s, Young was asked by his eventual business partner to join him at Infotec Commercial Systems, a high technology training company specializing in software development and training. They, with the Infotec leadership team, grew the company from four branches to more than 30 profit centers, increasing annual company sales from a few million to more than $30 million in five years.

At Fresno State, Young was a two-term president of his fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha, Interfraternity Man of the Year, and helped expand the chapter to more than 120 members. After graduating from Fresno State, he provided leadership consulting to chapters at about 100 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

Over the years, Young has been involved in a theatrical company, run political campaigns and been involved in numerous community organizations. He and his wife and son live in Mission Viejo.
