member Neil L. Kuykendall views Fresno State through a lens of
excellence.
It started when he was a graduate student, working on his master’s
degree in health services administration. He was inducted into Phi Kappa
Phi, the national honor society in 1989, and he’s been involved with the
national honor society ever since.
He served as chapter president from 1994 to 1998 and has served the
society on several national committees.
In August, Kuykendall, an instructional support technician in the
Biology Department, was among the delegates at the 2007 Phi Kappa Phi
National Triennial Convention in Orlando, Fla.
Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Baton Rouge, La., Phi Kappa Phi is
the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor
society. Phi Kappa Phi inducts annually more than 30,000 students,
faculty, professional staff and alumni. The society has chapters at more
than 300 select colleges and universities in North America and the
Philippines.
Membership is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and
graduate students and 7.5 percent of juniors. Faculty, professional
staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction also qualify.
The Fresno State chapter was established in 1953 and has been honored
more than any other chapter for the excellence of its
student-recognition and academic-promotion programs. The Fresno honor
society recognizes academic excellence in all majors at both the
undergraduate and graduate level.
