President signs international sustainability declaration

At the grand opening ceremony Thursday for the solar parking shelter project, President John D. Welty signed the Talloires Declaration on behalf of California State University, Fresno.

The Talloires Declaration is a 10-point action plan for incorporating sustainability issues into the teaching, research, operations and outreach of universities. It is the first official statement by university presidents declaring a commitment to environmental issues and sustainable development in higher education.

So far, more than 300 university presidents in 40 countries have signed the declaration.
