Fresno State participates in Fulbright scholar programs

California State University, Fresno is hosting one Fulbright scholar from Korea, and in the spring will send a faculty member on a Fulbright scholarship to the Dominican Republic, where she will research childhood obesity.

On campus through this academic year is Dr. Dal Yob Lee, a professor of vocational rehabilitation in the College of Rehabilitation Science at Daegu University in Korea. At Fresno State’s Kremen School of Education and Human Development, Lee is researching crisis prevention for rehabilitation counseling professionals.

He is part of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program, which brings faculty from elsewhere to campuses in the United States.

Leaving the campus for the spring semester is Dr. Helda Lucia Pinzon-Perez, an associate professor of health science in Fresno State’s College of Health and Human Services. She will teach health promotion at the Ibero-American University in Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic.

Pinzon-Perez also will conduct research on childhood obesity, issue of significant concern in the Central California region served by Fresno State and in the Dominican Republic.

The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which works with the Council for International Exchange of Scholars to provide overseas opportunities for faculty and professionals.

The program takes its name from U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright (1905-1995), D-Ark., an advocate for international education exchange programs and the longest-service member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
