Fresno State's February musical calendar is busy

February's music calendar at California State University, Fresno includes a faculty concert, chamber performance, a junior high repertoire, a saxophone quartet and a dramatic ethnohistorical cantata.

All events are open to the public, with tickets available through the Box Office in the Music Building. The Box Office is open 11 a.m.-1 p.m. weekdays and one hour prior to performances.

On Feb. 9, Department of Music faculty will perform in “A Tapestry of Sound” to benefit the scholarship fund for the students who want to follow their career lead.

The concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Building Concert Hall, will highlight works by Brahms, Tchaikovsky and P.D.Q. Bach, as well as an original composition by Fresno State composer and lecturer Brad Hufft. Pianist Andreas Werz will perform a piece by avant-garde composer Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Tickets are $20 general admission; $15 faculty and staff; and $10 seniors and Fresno State students.

At 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11, “Musique de Chambre Carnaval” will be performed in the Concert Hall. Four campus chamber groups will come together for the first time: the Clendenin Brass Quintet, the President's Quintet (woodwind), Common Ground Saxophone Quartet and the Fresno State String Quartet.
