The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education recently named California State University, Fresno among the top 100 schools for Hispanic students.

Each year, the magazine picks colleges and universities at which many Hispanic students can “thrive and persist.” In its November 2007 issue, The Hispanic Outlook listed Fresno State as being among the top 100 schools to encourage enrollment of Hispanic students and foster an environment in which they can succeed in earning a degree.

In the 2006-07 academic year 860 Hispanic students earned bachelor’s degrees and 163 earned master’s degrees at Fresno State.

“Fresno State is proud of its record of service to Latino students and is proud to host one of the largest Latino Commencement Celebrations in the country,” said Provost Jeri Echeverria.

University President John D. Welty said, “We are honored to be recognized by Hispanic Outlook. We are proud that our excellent academic programs and services have helped Fresno State consistently rank as one of the top Hispanic-serving institutions in the country.”

Fresno State’s latest enrollment figures include 7,102 Hispanic students, 31.7 percent of the undergraduate and graduate headcount. In fall 2007, the university enrolled 975 Hispanic first-time freshmen, which represented 32 percent of students admitted.
