Fresno State among top 25 graduate schools to enroll Hispanics

The Hispanic Outlook recently published data showing that California State University, Fresno is among the top 25 Western graduate schools for enrolling Hispanics.

According to the April 2008 issue of The Hispanic Outlook, Fresno State is 23rd in the West for enrolling Hispanics in graduate school. Five other universities in the California state system were also on the top 25 list.

“We are pleased to be among universities who encourage Hispanic students to attend graduate school,” said Fresno State President John D. Welty. “Fresno State has consistently ranked as one of the top Hispanic-serving institutions in the country.”

“Fresno State supports its Latino students and is proud have so many of them enrolled in our quality graduate programs,” said Dr. Echeverria, Fresno State provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Data from a study by the National Center for Education Statistics showed that 26 percent of Fresno State’s graduate school enrollees are Hispanic. Last year, Fresno State admitted 763 Hispanic students to its graduate programs, 207 of whom were men and 556 of whom were women.

Many Hispanic students are also graduating from Fresno State. In the academic year 2006-07, 860 Hispanic students earned bachelor’s degrees and 163 Hispanic students earned master’s degrees at the university.
