“The Maddy Report,” a public affairs series produced by KSEE, Channel 24, with the Maddy Institute at California State University, Fresno, will examine the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13.

The program, which will be repeated at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 20 on KSEE 24, will consider whether the partnership is “Just Another Study or A Blueprint for Change?”

The partnership was created by Gov. Schwarzenegger in 2005 to bring together state and Valley leaders to recommend to the governor changes that would improve the economic well-being and quality of life for the region and its residents. The recommendations were presented to Schwarzenegger during a partnership meeting at Fresno State in October.

Joining in “The Maddy Report” discussion will be:

Assembly member Michael Villines (R-Clovis)

Assembly member Nicole Parra (D-Hanford)

Tulare County Supervisor Connie Conway, partnership vice chair

Business executive Fred Ruiz, a partnership board member

Ashley Swearengin, partnership lead executive and director of Fresno State’s Office of Community and Economic Development

Don Jackson, chair of the Maddy Institute

Diana Dooley, Maddy Institute board member and president and CEO of Children’s Hospital Central California

Jim Boren, Maddy Institute board member and Fresno Bee editorial page editor

Mark Keppler, executive director of the Maddy Institute, will moderate. He said the goal is “to provide a balanced, fact-based and thought-provoking examination of issues facing the region, state and nation.”

Keppler said the institute’s public policy subcommittee will recommend the program topics for shows to air during coming months.

Todd McWilliams, KSEE 24’s general manager, said, “The Maddy Report” is just another example of our commitment to this community.”

The Kenneth L. Maddy Institute was established in 1999 by the Legislature to honor State Sen. Ken Maddy, who had a 28-year career in public service. The institute’s mission is to provide non-partisan, interdisciplinary, factual analysis of public policy issues that have impace on the region and California.

The Institute also provides practical training for local officials and civic leaders, fellowships for Fresno State students with local state and federal legislators, as well as symposia and extension courses on public policy and administration.
