Improvements to the intersection of Shaw and Chestnut avenues near the Save Mart Center at Fresno State are under way this week and motorists should exercise caution as crews work in the area. No lane closures are planned.Work by American Paving Co. will be on the north side of Shaw Avenue from State Route 168 to 900 feet west of Chestnut Avenue. The improvements are removing existing concrete and asphalt and grading for new curb and gutter, and a bus bay slab. This work is part of the Chestnut Avenue widening project funded by the State’s Traffic Congestion Relief Program. It will include a turn-out lane in front of the Save Mart Center in order to avoid traffic congestion and impacts to the northern most westbound lane during events.

Also, underground work for the new signal system for the Bullard/Chestnut intersection has been completed. In late July, the equipment to complete the traffic signal is expected to arrive and further work will be done. The Shaw/Chestnut signal system installation will be completed at the same time.
